MRM VEGGIE ELITE [REVIEW]
I guess most people don’t know the MRM Veggie Elite, because it’s not as famous and glamorous as brands like Vega ou Sunwarrior. However, the ones who dare to buy this product are usually left very satisfied. On the other hand, some people just don’t like it. So what’s the deal? Should you buy it or not? By the end of this review you’ll have a clear answer to that!
PS: Keep in mind that MRM is NOT a vegan company – they also sell animal products like whey protein, egg protein, etc – so if you’re a hardcore vegan who doesn’t buy from non-vegan companies, then I need to say that the MRM Veggie Elite is not for you. But if you’re just looking for a vegan protein powder, then read on!
TASTE & TEXTURE:
This product is offered in 3 flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate and Cinnamon. We don’t recommend buying the cinnamon one, because it doesn’t go with everything – and some days you’re just not in the mood for a cinnamon shake. The Vanilla and Chocolate are more versatile, with Vanilla being our team’s favorite one.
This protein powder is sweet, but not as sweet as the VEGA SPORT. Still, if you can’t handle the sweetness of stevia, maybe you should try something more bland like the stevia-free SPROUT LIVING EPIC PROTEIN. For those of you who like sweet shakes, then you’ll be please with the taste of the MRM Veggie Elite – it’s definitely tastier than the SUNWARRIOR WARRIOR BLEND. You won’t want to mix it with water, though – we suggest adding almond milk or coconut milk and maybe a banana to make a nice smoothie. By the way, have you tried our VEGAN PROTEIN SMOOTHIE RECIPE?
Now let’s talk about an aspect where the MRM is just average: texture.
Some premium brands (like Vega) have a silky, smooth texture, but this is not the case with the MRM Veggie Elite – it’s actually a bit grainy and chalky. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad… Let’s just say it takes some getting used to.
VEGAN SOURCES OF PROTEIN:
Some people are worried about not getting all the essential amino acids from a vegan diet – and this product nails it with a combination of proteins from pea, brown rice and sacha inchi – making it a complete source of protein.
Because of its ingredients, the MRM Veggie Elite is a soy-free, gluten-free, non-gmo, allergen-free supplement with a healthy combination of protein sources and a good amino acid profile. Oh, and it has no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners.
OTHER INGREDIENTS:
Besides the sources of proteins and the natural sweeteners (stevia, monk fruit and trehalose – a natural sugar from mushrooms), MRM also decided to include an additional ingredient to help with your digestion: a vegan blend of enzymes called Digest-All® VP. Those enzymes help your digestive system break down the nutrients from the food so your body can absorb it. In other words: while some protein powders leave you bloated and gassy, the MRM Veggie Elite actually improves your digestion!
COST:
Now this is where the MRM Veggie Elite Performance Protein destroys its competitors.
However, forget about the price tag.
Some brands use big scoops and claim that their product has “more grams of protein per dose”. Of course, their doses are bigger! Others sell their products on larger jars, and say that you get “more servings per container”. Who are they trying to fool?
When you’re buying vegan protein powders, make sure to include all these factor into the price equation:
“Product Price”, “Weight”, “Serving Size” and “Grams of Protein per serving”
Here’s the info about the MRM Veggie Elite:
Product Price: $ (Click to see updated prices)
Weight: The container is 2.2lbs (1,020g).
Serving Size: One scoop is 34g
Protein per Serving: Each serving has 24g of protein.
See? Check all those items to make sure the smartass marketing guys aren’t deceiving you by changing the size of the scoop, using bigger containers or decreasing the protein ratio.
If you apply that same thinking to similar products from other brands, you’ll see that this is about HALF the market’s average. So when you buy the MRM Veggie Elite on Amazon, you’re buying a good product for a very low price.
MRM VEGGIE ELITE: SHOULD YOU BUY IT?
Let’s do a quick recap:
Taste: Good, sweet but not candy-like. Slightly chalky. Texture is a bit grainy.
Sources: Nice variety, good amino acid profile. Soy-free, gluten-free.
Cost: If you buy it on Amazon, incredibly cheap. On their official website the price is not so attractive.
Many people claim that this products is one of the best you can buy. We don’t know about that, but it’s certainly the best “bang-for-your-buck” if you can grab one on Amazon for a low price!
While the taste is very good, we feel like the texture could be smoother. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great product – but it won’t win any awards because of the grainy texture.
Here’s our verdict*:
- If you find it for under $30 on Amazon (click to see current prices), buy it! You’ll probably like it a lot.
- If it’s over $30, then buy the Orgain Organic Protein instead.
I want to remind you that there is no such thing as “The Best Vegan Protein Powder Ever”, because we all have different tastes and budgets. Our intent with these reviews is to help you make an informed decision – but that does NOT mean you’ll love the same products that we do. You will, however, avoid buying the ones that taste like dirt and/or use low-quality ingredients – because we’ll always be honest and upfront in our reviews.
We don’t agree that the MRM Veggie Elite is THE BEST VEGAN PROTEIN POWDER EVER, but it’s pretty good – and many people will love it.
